About ReikiBrief history of Reiki What can Reiki do? What to expect from a treatment About Katrina As well as being a reflexologist I am a qualified Reiki practitioner and use this technique as an excellent enhancement to the Ingham reflexology techniques that I have been trained to use. I don't treat with Reiki alone but am delighted to be able to refer clients to an superb Reiki practitoner (and my wife), Katrina Robinson-Brown. Reiki is a healing technique that uses the laying-on of hands on the body. The word Reiki means universal spirit,(rei), life force energy (ki). Reiki works by resolving or eliminating toxic energy and substances from all levels of the being. At the same time it strengthens positive energy in the body to promote healing.
Brief history of Reiki:Reiki was used by Tibetan Monks thousands of years ago. However, modern Reiki was re-discovered by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan. Dr Usui re-discovered a universal energy that had the capacity to heal on a physical, mental and spiritual level. He discovered details in sacred texts that outlined the principles of Reiki and later saw the symbols after fasting for 21 days on Mount Kurama in Japan. Dr Usui developed what he had learnt and developed the Usui System of Natural Healing. Before his death he trained others in the healing art of Reiki. Reiki Principles:
What can Reiki do?Reiki can stimulate healing on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. As well as promoting healing Reiki can also be used for relaxation and well being. Reiki works in five ways:
Reiki is a safe treatment, regardless of the presenting complaint. It is not used to diagnose specific problems, but instead is used to re-balance the whole body. It can be used to relieve illness, pain and emotional difficulties. Reiki is not intended to replace the advice or treatment of a medical professional. Rather, it can be used alongside other therapies and treatments to enhance the healing process. What to expect from a treatment:Reiki treatments last 45 minutes to 1 hour. You remain fully clothed and will be asked to lie down, so loose comfortable clothes are advisable. I will use soft music, candles and incense in order to create an environment of relaxation and peace. During the treatment I will place my hands on your body according to the 12 hand positions of Reiki. If the energy indicates I may add extra positions where the body needs it. You may feel heat, coldness or tingling on areas being treated, and may see colours or images. You may also experience memories or emotions relating to past events After a Reiki treatment you may feel energised or deeply relaxed and may feel the need to sleep. This is part of the natural healing process. You may also find that your symptoms worsen for a short time, usually no more than a day. This is because the healing energy has been amplified and will lessen with time or further treatments. It is important to drink plenty of water after a treatment to aid detoxification.
